If you want to throw money at it, you might want to investigate
veritas cluster filesystem, and fiber-attached storage.. IF the two sites
are close enough for a "direct" fibre communication channel.
Allows for direct access reads to the disks. eg: simultaneous access to the
filesystem. Writes are coordinated by the "active" master node.
Havent gotten to try it out ourselves, but we're looking at it. It's been
around for a while, so probably falls in the "stable and robust" category.
PS: email from "ns1.*" is kinda tacky. fix your mail system! :-)
